I have been thinking of this lately. What is the Gorean Mentality? In order to understand this it means we must first understand what the definition of ‘Mentality’ is.

Mentality is defined as;

A mindset, in decision theory and general systems theory, refers to a set of assumptions, methods or notations held by one or more people or groups of people which is so established that it creates a powerful incentive within these people or groups to continue to adopt or accept prior behaviors, choices, or tools.

Essentially one can sum up all of that into something more short, concise and powerful. The Gorean Mentality is a mindset based on a firm set of codes, beliefs, and unwavering mental, physical and even spiritual strength.

Codes or Code of Honor;

An honor code or honor system is a set of rules or principles governing a community based on a set of rules or ideals that define what constitutes honorable behavior within that community. The use of an honor code depends on the idea that people (at least within the community) can be trusted to act honorably. Those who are in violation of the honor code can be subject to various sanctions, including expulsion from the institution.

Is the Gorean Community an Institution? I firmly believe it is. There are homes slaves can go to and learn. Would any community survive if it did not have a code of some sort? A place to rear those who wish to learn? Very unlikely.

Beliefs;

Knowns in the subconscious.

Really truly, can you say that there was absolutely no part of you that when you found out what Gor was that some part of you just clicked? I find it more probable that it did and you would feel complete. I know I did. It simple hit me and said, “Hey, this is you, who you are, what you were meant to be.” It has been and I can say that since then I have never looked back. I have pushed forward and learned the hard and easy ways. I have made friends with some long time Goreans and have told other well established ones to take a hike. That is my right yes and sometimes I might have spoke sooner than I should have but I do not complain. Each mistake is a lesson. One learned, never repeated, and never forgotten. My beliefs aligned and it is who I am today living with that code, those beliefs, and the strength I was born with.

Strength; (A few here since more than one applies)

A state of masculine spontaneity produced by repressing socially supported passivity and embracing dominance as a total lifestyle.

The property of being physically or mentally strong.

Is the state of being physically, mentally, or spiritually strong.

Is not Gor a place where the strongest thrive? It is natural order and thus the strong protect the weak or enslave them. The first definition rings truly and loudly as the Gorean community is a masculine dominated society. It does repress the socially supported passiveness of society and it embraces the natural dominance of men. If it did not it would not be Gor.

These are the things I consider the Gorean Mentality. Simple ideals but that is but the surface. I will write more as I reflect on this and go into greater detail next time I write.
